As this is the first President’s report of my term hopefully you will allow me a little opportunity to pass on my thanks to those that have worked for the betterment of our PSA and ICT use in general and to welcome those that are officially getting involved with CUEBC. Leaving the Executive this year for other adventures is Glen Holmes who has been the treasurer of our organization for numerous years. Glen is “officially retiring” from CUEBC. Moving Beyond the Tools
Moving Beyond the Tools Many of us who believe that technology can assist the transformation of learning are looking to where we go next. We have made the case that the world is changing, heard the experts quote the statistics about kids today, and retold stories of Bangalore, India to all who will listen. Now that we have made the case for change, we need to start showing the change at work. If we are going to unlock the industrial model of education, we need to move beyond the... Read More >> |

Useful Websites: Converting and Sending Files
As an Information Technology teacher, I've had several students (and teachers) come to me wanting to open files. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons the files can't be open as expected. One website that I use to convert files is Zamzar.com. The name sounds more like a website for the latest Super Hero than for file conversion but it has "rescued" student's files many times. There is no software to install. This is a big plus if you do not have adminstrative rights on yo... Read More >> |

Writing Santa
Despite claims on the Arctic from countries as varied as the USA, Russia, and Denmark, Canadians are convinced that the North Pole is in Canada, and that as a result, Santa is a fellow Canadian. Perhaps it’s no surprise, then, that Canada Post does a booming business in letters to Santa- postal code HOH OHO. Since 2001, Canada Post has also been handling Santa’s emails, replying to some 44,000 emails in 2006 (compared to over a million print letters each year). Starting in November, ch... Read More >> |

We were blown away by the generosity of our sponsors, the helpfulness of our volunteers, and the variety and expertise of our presenters. Thank you all so much. We'd also like to extend our appreciation to John Simpson for his message about the important challenges facing the future of educ... Read More >> |

What's in Your USB key?
There is a Capitol One credit card commercial with the slogan, “What's in your wallet?” which got me thinking, "What's in your USB key?” If you attended this year's CUEBC conference you probably got a1 gigabyte USB memorykey. That is a lot of storage space. What are you going to do with it? Store 1 gigs worth of Word documents in it? Dennis Wong wrote an article back in April 2006 on USB Flash Drives and mentioned portable a... Read More >> |
